1855 An Earthquake in this year lifted the swampy lagoon behind Coutney Place high enough to allow the Basin Reserve to be created. The Reserve was drained and levelled by prisoners. 1855 The Wellingotn Education Act was passed, it promoted secular education & gave no aid to church schools. |
